Salmon Attempting to Lay Eggs

Underwater Views of the World of Salmon

A large female salmon chases a smaller male. Then she settles into the nest, or redd. She looks for a place to place here eggs. The smaller male waits nearby, wanting to fertilize the eggs. The male salmon has a hooked snout. Sometimes, it is easy to see this identifying characteristic on the video.  The females do not have the hooked snout. You have to look very closely to tell them apart though. The Eel River has both Chinook and Coho salmon.
