Track Trap Video

Trackers learn what a track trap is

Many species passed by this short section of river sand. This is what trackers call a track trap. A track trap is any area, either with prepared soil, or occurring naturally, that shows tracks well. Open soil, wet sand, muddy river banks, dusty trail edges, are all examples of track traps. The nice soil "traps" the tracks nicely and trackers can use these areas to examine beautiful examples of the footprints of many species. In this particular section, you can see the tracks of mink, mountain lion, deer, great blue heron, river otter, and more.
