Gray Fox Scent Marking Behavior

In this video from my trail camera, you can watch a gray fox as it marks scent to claim territory. This fox explored around, then found a spot and deposited a scat there. I found the scat when I changed the disk in the camera. There have been many foxes in this area. Several of them have stopped to mark scent, most frequently with urine. They also use their scats in this way. It's a way of communicating among members of a species. Many wild mammals use this technique.
