Salmon Chase Underwater Views of the World of Fish |
|
Several salmon battling for position in the redd. Watch as several big fish have a territorial battle over the nest where the eggs will be laid. One large fish chases off a smaller one, mouth open wide! Such battles are common during the salmon spawning run. This is when they pass on their genes to future generations of salmon. It's the last thing these fish do before they die. After spawning, most of these fish die. Their carcasses wash up on shore and feed many wildlife species. Bald eagles, black bears, coyotes, foxes, and more, all feed on the spawned out salmon carcasses. This is one of nature's grandest cycles. |
